There was only enough time to be in and out of the Chelsea Market, New York City. A new shop, The Filling Station, caught my attention. Neatly displayed was a long row of metal canisters containing olive oil and vinegar. Another shelf was filled with glass jars of sea salt and sugar. Tasting each artisan product stalled my efforts of being a quick shopper. A few sea salt flavors are as follows: Thai Ginger, Smoked Alderwood (bold), Black Truffle (heaven on earth), Himalayan Pink (spiritual), Ghost Pepper (It’s spiciness is actually loud), Lime Fresco (Margarita!). Olive oil flavors include black truffle, blood orange and porcini. The vinegars are sweetly flavored with fig, cinnamon pear, pomegranate, honey ginger or coconut. The decision to purchase a bottle of fig vinegar was based on receiving ten pounds of Macoun Apples from the last Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share. It’ll accompany many apple recipe(s) in the near future. I look forward to returning to the shop for more bottles and jars to purchase and refill*.
